Mini-Soccer Field Opens in Talas City as Result of Local Initiative
June 15, 2012
On June 19, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., residents of Talas city will join U.S. Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic Pamela L. Spratlen, Talas City Mayor Anarbek Kushubekov, and Talas Oblast Governor Koysun Kurmanaliyeva to inaugurate a mini-soccer field rehabilitated with support from the U.S. Government. The sports field is located next to secondary school #1 at 45 Nurjanov Street.
Located close to the city bazaar, the school, and residential areas, the mini-soccer field is well-placed to engage youth and adults in joint activities. City administration and constituents identified the rehabilitation of the soccer field as a local priority. Residents of Talas contributed their efforts to its rehabilitation by cleaning up the site. “This is a great initiative and we are happy to see positive changes take place in our city for the benefit of our children,” said one of the residents.
USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives (USAID/OTI) joined with the Talas Mayor’s Office to rehabilitate the soccer field. All materials and labor were locally sourced, an additional benefit to the area economy.
