U.S. Embassy Launches Kyrgyz Version of its Website
April 16, 2012
On April 17, 2012, the U.S. Embassy to the Kyrgyz Republic will launch the Kyrgyz-language version of its website. The launch will be featured at the Embassy’s Facebook party and jazz concert at 17:00 at the Bayalinov Library, held in cooperation with the American Borboru.
The Embassy regularly posts press releases, vacancy announcements, transcripts of interviews and official meetings, and other important information. Previously available in English and Russian, all of this information will now be available in the Kyrgyz language as well.
The Kyrgyz-language website is part of Embassy initiatives to support the development of Kyrgyz-language information on internet. The Embassy’s Democracy Commission grants program provided funding to the “We Want Kyrgyz Language in Google Translate” initiative group that has been working to incorporate the Kyrgyz language into Google Translate service. Google Translate provides free online translation in more than 60 languages, which will soon include Kyrgyz. In addition to information available online in Kyrgyz, the U.S. Embassy has also funded the translation and publication of six classic American novels.
