“American Songs Contest” held among school students

February 2, 2012

On January 31, 2012, an American Song Contest final competition was held at the Seitek Youth Center.  The event was organized by the U.S. Embassy in conjunction with the Forum English Teachers’ Association, the American Music Center and the Ministry of Education.

One hundred and thirty high school students from eighteen Bishkek schools took part in the competition, in three categories: solo, vocal ensemble and choral.  The participants were all those who had won the right to represent their schools in earlier competitions.  The contest was an opportunity for students to showcase their English language skills and their musical talents at the same time.

A U.S. Embassy representative and the Deputy Minister of Education opened the contest and wished success to all participants.  The U.S. Embassy provided prizes not only to the winners but to their schools as well.  Public Affairs Officer Kimberly McDonald congratulated all the participants, handing out T-shirts and certificates to all the participants, and prizes to the 9 talented winners.
