Warden Message- October 16, 2007

This warden message is being issued to inform U.S. citizens of a planned demonstration scheduled to occur on Wednesday afternoon, October 17, 2007 directly across from the US Embassy located at 171 Prospect Mira in Bishkek. The demonstration is reportedly being organized by activists calling for the withdrawal of Manas Airbase from Kyrgyzstan. Though the Embassy has no information that the demonstrations will be violent, we remind American Citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. While the US Embassy will be open for business, American Citizens are urged to defer any travel to the US Embassy if possible, and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of the demonstration.
