How to Schedule an Interview

Please use the process below to schedule your non-immigrant visa interview.

Please note: If at any time, you realize that you may not be able to keep your scheduled visa interview appointment, the US Embassy strongly urges you to cancel it via the on-line appointment system. By failing to appear for your interview, you have blocked another applicant from using that appointment time. The on-line appointment system allows you to change your appointment time and date based on availability.   Please DO NOT book more than one appointment per person.  All duplicate entries will be cancelled and the applicant will not be notified.

Step 1: Go to the NIV Appointment System page, go to “Choose a help language” and select “русский”. Hover the cursor above the English to see it written in Russian.

Step 2: At the bottom of the page click the button named “Electronic Visa Application Forms”.

Step 3:  At the bottom of the page click the link called “DS-156: Nonimmigrant Visa Application”.

Step 4: Fill out EVAF and print all 3 pages, including the barcode.  It is very important that the barcode be printed clearly.

Step 5: When you have answered all of the questions click “Continue” at the bottom of the screen.  Then print the DS-156, including Page 3, “Supplement to Nonimmigrant Visa Application” which includes barcode number.

Step 6:  Return to the NIV Appointment System page and click the “Schedule Appointment” button at the bottom of the screen.

Step 7: The “Barcode number” on the screen should match the number from Page 3 of your EVAF.  (If your barcode number does not appear, you should type it into the text field provided on the screen.)  Click “Submit” to view the appointment calendar, and select a date and time for your interview.  Select an appointment time, enter your personal information and click “Submit” to schedule your appointment.

Step 8: Print out your receipt listing the date and time of your interview.

Step 9: On the date of your interview come to the Embassy no more than 15 minutes prior to interview and have with you the following items:
1. DS-156 EVAF (all 3 pages). If you do not have the EVAF with you we will not be able to proceed with the processing of your visa!
2. Receipt with the date and time of your interview
3. Photo
4. Effective January 1, 2008, $131 non-refundable MRV fee to be paid in either Kyrgyz som or exact US dollars.
5. DS-157 form for men between ages 16-45.  Русский   English
6. Other supporting documents as required by your visa type or recommended by the Embassy:
- F and M visa applicants should read the Student Visas page
- H, L, and E visa applicants should read the Work Visas page

Step 10:  On the day of your interview, the consul will decide whether you will receive a visa in accordance with U.S. law. If you qualify for a visa, your visa will be available at 3 p.m. of the next business day.  If your visa application is refused, your passport will be returned to you immediately.

For detailed information on the interview procedure and required documents, please refer to "Interview Checklist".
