The Ambassador mentioned the U.S. Government’s close collaboration with the Government of Kyrgyzstan and the sincere desire to work together to help meet the needs of families in need. As part of this program, USAID funds of $4.3 million are being used to procure and distribute over 5000 metric tons of flour, oil, and beans that are being purchased from primarily Kyrgyz vendors.
This food assistance represents the continuation of on-going U.S. Government assistance to enhance food security in Kyrgyzstan. Examples of this assistance include the allocation of $300,000 to purchase 275 metric tones of winter wheat seeds for Kyrgyzstan during 2008-2009; work with Water Users Associations (WUAs) to help farmers return more than 5,000 hectares of land that had lain dormant into productive use; and support to survey State-owned agricultural land in 30% (130) of Ayil Okmotus, resulting in transparent land management procedures through auctions and increased revenues from LRF (FPS in Russian) on average by 860%. ambassador's remarks (rus)
