Public Affairs

English Language Program

The State Department has an office specifically dedicated to supporting English language programs abroad.  Several other government offices fund and administer exchange, professionals development and scholarships related to English teaching.  The U.S. Government has been supporting theses programs for more than 45 years. 

There are over 130 English Language Fellows  serving in 67 countries during academic year 2005-2006.

Central Asia Regional English Language Officer (RELO) organizes and participates in teacher training conferences and workshops, conducts need analysis and offer professional guidance, advise teachers' associations, and consult with host country officials.  RELO works with both the public and private sectors. 

Recycling of English Language Materials Program

The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy supports the development of English teaching in the Kyrgyz Republic by selling low-cost English teaching materials through the English Teachers' Associations, universities, schools and NGOs.

There are more then 100 titles published by Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State Materials Development and Review Branch.
